Wal-Mart eye on South East Asia
After working with India, China and Japan-the three big economies of the world, now Wal-Mart is keeping an eye for expansion on South East Asia. In a recent report the President and CEO of Wal-Mart Scott Price said “We will capture 10 to 15 markets in Asia in ten years. At present, expansion plans for India alone is the full time job for us.”
On asking to about his relationships between India and China, Price said that it would be wrong to compare between the two as both are strong and india has a lot of potential as it has a highly educated professionals. Moreover he said, “The retail giant would also like to increase sourcing from India for their stores all over the world.”
Walmart is setting up its plan to establish a good relationship with the farmers. Presently it is working in a JV with Bharti group in India. The JV has tied up 110 farmers at Malerkotla which would be expanded. They are tying up more and more farmers because they want to reduce the net food miles.
